NASHVILLE, Tenn.— MAPCO has opened its first Grabango-powered checkout-free store in Brentwood, Tennessee, where shoppers can skip the line with speedy checkout.
"We're excited to offer this game-changing checkout-free technology at our Brentwood location," said Frederic Chaveyriat, CEO of MAPCO. "We look forward to bringing the same great MAPCO products our Brentwood customers know and love with the added convenience of a checkout-free option."
Grabango’s technology eliminates lines and saves time, as shoppers use the Grabango app for Apple or Android instead of checking out. The experience is fully contactless. Shoppers simply select the items they want and are billed through the app. Payment is contactless and automatic—there's no need for barcode scanning.
To date, Grabango has signed seven major retail partners, including two global top-10 grocers. Combined, the company's partners represent over 375 million square feet of retail space, and each partner has $1 billion or more in annual revenue.
"We're pleased to bring the time-saving benefits of Grabango's checkout-free solution to another partner, especially one as committed to their shoppers' experience as MAPCO," said Will Glaser, CEO of Grabango. "We know that Grabango will delight shoppers and deliver value to the business as this capability is shared with more MAPCO shoppers every day."
Grabango is based on computer vision, and the company says its checkout-free solution eliminates shrink, increases store capacity and boosts shopper loyalty. In addition, the technology installs without interrupting store operations, doesn't require changes to store layout or product mix and doesn't require any special carts or gates.
Last month, Chevron announced checkout-free shopping at Chevron’s ExtraMile store in San Ramon, California, by partnering with Grabango. Bp and GetGo Café+Market also have partnered with Grabango to integrate checkout-free technology into their stores.
MAPCO also recently celebrated the grand opening of its newest store in Huntsville, Alabama. As part of the grand opening ceremonies and in support of MAPCO’s ongoing commitment to the communities it serves, MAPCO unveiled on-site "Fueling Our Future" dedicated gas pumps benefiting the students at Huntsville High School. The pumps will be open for 30 days following the opening celebration with MAPCO donating 25 cents for every gallon pumped to the Panthers’ athletic programs, in support of local youth recreation.
“At MAPCO, we are always looking for new ways to give back to the communities where we live and serve,” said Chaveyriat. “We are honored to celebrate this new store by giving back to local youth recreation. We invite the Huntsville community to come out, enjoy MAPCO’s unparalleled customer service and quality products, and help us ‘Fuel Our Future’ through the donation pumps.”
Prior to and throughout the event, the Huntsville store team collected from generous customers new and gently used coats of all sizes, which were then donated to the Boys & Girls Club of North Alabama for distribution to local families in need of warm garments for the holiday season. This was done in partnership with Celsius Fitness Drinks, who donated 50 coats toward the drive.
The new 5,600 square-foot store will have 16 fueling stations and boasts MAPCO’s latest Store of the Future award-winning design, featuring an open floor plan and refreshed layout with large windows, tall ceilings and clean, modern restrooms. Guests can enjoy an in-store Pizza Hut Express and an expanded selection of snacks and refreshments; including a variety of hot foods, cold grab and go sandwiches and salads, fresh pastries, nine flavors of ICEE frozen carbonated beverages, Fresh Blends smoothies and delicious freshly ground coffee by the cup from four bean-to-cup coffee brewers.
