Wawa is extending its “Buy a Kids Meal, Make an Impact,” initiative for an extra five weeks to help fight food insecurity. Originally launched on March 4, the initiative donates funds to local food bank partners to provide meals to the community for every Wawa kids’ meal purchased.
The initiative is an extension of the retailer's Fly Beyond program, which aims to expand access to fresh and nutritious foods to underserved communities through local Feeding America Food Bank partners.
Since its initial launch in March, Wawa has been able to contribute funding to support nearly 1 million meals for kids who are food insecure this summer, the company said. The initiative was set to end on July 28 and will now run through September 1.
“Thanks to the support from our customers and the positive impact this program has had, Wawa is excited to extend our Kids Meal initiative through September 1, which means we’ll be able to provide more meals to support kids in our communities,” said Mary Rose Hannum, vice president of food and beverage, Wawa. “We’re happy our Kids Meals not only help families with a quick and delicious meal option, but more important are helping others gain access to nutritious food too!”
Earlier this month, Little General raised money for WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital during the Annual Joz Noz Kidz Legends Weekend golf tournament. On the first day alone, over $24,000 was raised at the golf tournament’s kickoff event, according to Blue and Gold Nation. Little General also donated tumblers to all golf tournament participants.
“At Little General, giving back to our community has always been a core value. We are so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of organizations like Joz Noz Kidz to help make a difference in the lives of others. A big shout out to everyone involved in the weekend and the organizers who helped make this all happen,” said the company.
