Make Your Data Count

Help NACS create the most robust benchmarking data available to our industry.

February 02, 2023

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—For more than half a century, NACS has produced the annual NACS State of the Industry Report®. And the only way for us to do this is with your help.

The driving force behind the report is our convenience retail community that participates in the NACS State of the Industry Survey—retailers who see the value of data to help grow their business.

Survey data is a representative sample that reflects every chain size and region within the United States and provides insights into what makes top performers just that—the most operationally sound and profitable retailers in our industry.

“Convenience retailers year after year submit their data to power our NACS State of the Industry Report, and they rely on this data to inform their company’s strategic decision-making process,” said Chris Rapanick, managing director of research at NACS. “And for those who are new to the process, they will see how quickly they can begin making better financial and operational decisions.”

Jared Scheeler, CEO of The Hub Convenience Stores, operates several stores in North Dakota. He’s among the first to say that NACS State of the Industry data and insights are indispensable, whether a company has two or 2,000 stores.

“I don’t just benchmark myself against the rest of the industry—I benchmark myself against the best of the industry. I see what I should keep doing, and what I need to get started doing right away,” said Scheeler.

NACS has more than 50 years of experience collecting and analyzing financial and operational metrics like sales, cost of goods sold and expenses because of our confidentiality pledge. As with all sensitive company data, survey data is kept completely confidential and is only used in aggregate for analysis with data from other participating retail companies. The published analysis is structured to prevent identification of participating companies.
