With convenience stores serving millions of customers each day, a point-of-sale (POS) solution that keeps up with evolving customer behaviors is critical, and c-stores are doubling down on transforming their digital assets by investing in innovative technologies that help them adapt faster, according to Brad McGuinness, SVP, Point of Sale Solutions, PDI Technologies, a technology solutions company focused on serving the convenience industry.

“Our mission at PDI is to connect the whole c-store ecosystem together and deliver the performance and visibility into what's happening in the store on a real-time basis,” McGuinness said. “You can’t do that without an all-in-one technology solution.”

PDI recently introduced its internationally market-tested PDI Point of Sale (POS), an all-in-one POS software solution, for availability in North America. It provides a cloud-centric and hardware-agnostic platform with mobile POS, self-checkout and foodservice capabilities, among other functions.

The versatile software has a configurable user interface, which allows it to be used for multiple purposes, such as kiosks, queue-buster tablets and self-service drive-thru ordering. As a result, it allows retailers to expand their customization points, improve the customer experience and achieve higher levels of reliability, according to PDI.

“You don't have to use different software applications to do self-service, to do kiosk-type entries or have a checkout point or even have a portable checkout point. That's critical for efficiency and simplicity,” McGuinness said.

He also explained that the most beneficial component of the software is that it’s truly connected to the cloud, allowing retailers to see real-time updates and be the “one source of truth” for a retailer.

“We wanted to make it possible for retailers to unlock the true power of their own data, integrate PDI solutions with other solutions where they desire to do that, and integrate PDI data with their own data where the sum of the parts gives them extremely valuable business insights that they can use to improve their bottom line,” said McGuinness.
