Walmart is reportedly accelerating its AI adoption, hiring a new VP of AI and implementing a new framework for AI made up of  “super agents” designed to improve the shopping experience for customers and streamline operations, reported outlet Chain Store Age.

“Daniel Danker, chief product officer at Instacart, is leaving the company after four and a half years to join Walmart as executive VP of AI acceleration, product and design. He announced the news on LinkedIn,” wrote Chain Store Age.

In a post on LinkedIn, Suresh Kumar, global chief technology officer and chief development officer at Walmart, said that the chain is rolling out a new framework for its AI tools made up of four “super agents” powered by agentic AI that will act as access points for its customers, employees and partners.

Each of the super agents will reportedly incorporate multiple AI agents, some of which are already in use, such as an agent that helps employees navigate benefits.

“We’re combining AI with breakthrough tech—like drones and real-time digital twins of our facilities—to predict and prevent issues before they happen,” Kumar said. "With geospatial data and insights from Flipkart, we plan to offer dynamic delivery windows to 95% of U.S. households by the end of this year.”

Walmart’s website says: “From the moment a product hits our supply chain to the second it reaches your cart or home, AI and automation are working quietly in the background. And these are just a few of the thousands of tools powering faster service, smarter decisions and better experiences across every aisle, every app, every day.”

In other recent Walmart news, in March NACS Daily reported that the brand is “revamping its convenience services” and will open or remodel more than 45 fuel stations across the United States this year.

Walmart currently operates 400+ fuel and convenience stations nationwide, and the new locations will bring the retailer’s store count to more than 450 locations across 34 states, Walmart said.

Walmart Fuel and Convenience stations also sell snacks and beverages in addition to fuel, and Walmart+ members save up to 10 cents per gallon with their membership.
