IRVING, Texas & WORCESTER, Mass.—7-Eleven has launched a black bean burger at participating 7-Eleven stores for a limited time, according to a news release. Made with black beans, corn, rice and seasonings, the vegetarian patty comes topped with American cheese on a brioche bun.

“At 7-Eleven, we keep a watchful eye on the shifting preferences of our customers and are constantly adapting our offerings for them," said Anjuli Wilkie, 7-Eleven senior category manager of hot foods. “We frequently receive requests for more vegetarian options from our loyal customers, and because our hot sandwiches are so popular, the addition of a black bean burger was the perfect fit. Whether customers are looking to add more meatless protein to their diets or want to enjoy something other than fish on Fridays this spring, 7-Eleven has an option for them.”

7-Eleven is offering two hot sandwiches for $5 in-store, including cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, and the black bean burger. Through April 12, 7Rewards members can pick up the new menu item for $2 on Fridays at participating 7-Eleven locations.

Plant-based options continue their time in the limelight. A recent New York Times article found that plant milk totaled 2.5 billion in 2020 and made up 15% of all retail sales of milk and 35% of plant-based foods. By the end of 2026, sales of dairy alternatives are projected to make up 30% of all milk sales.

Meanwhile, Nouria Energy has expanded its private label brand my nouria into freshly packaged baked goods, according to a news release.

Nouria heavily invested in development of the baked goods, sourcing quality ingredients, conducting taste tests and partnering with brands such as Reese’s and Nestle Tollhouse. The baked goods include cake, muffins, Danishes, cookies and brownies. Moving over to its own brand also enabled Nouria to introduce six additional flavors versus its previous assortment.

“We are extremely proud of the nouria brand” said Kristine Modugno, director of category management. “Our brand starts and ends with our people, communities and guests, so we do not take it lightly when selecting items on which we put our name. Private-label products are gaining market share and we are excited to expand our offerings with highly regarded nouria products.”

Modugno will present an overview of the private-label category at the NACS State of the Industry (SOI) Summit April 12-14 in Chicago.
