SEATTLE – Starbucks’ Evolution Fresh, a cold-pressed juice and smoothie company, is launching six flavors of organic kombucha in grocery and retail locations around the country.

Starbucks acquired Evolution Fresh in 2011 and is breaking into the fermented tea drink category at a hot time. Refrigerated tea sales totaled $1.2 billion last year while kombucha and other fermented beverages jumped 37.4% last year.

“Evolution Fresh has a long-standing heritage in cold-pressed juice, and we are continuing to deliver on our commitment to expand in the functional beverage category with the launch of Evolution Fresh Organic Kombucha,” said Ryan Ziegelmann, president of Evolution Fresh, in a statement. “We know our consumers are looking for beverages with functional benefits, and Evolution Fresh Organic Kombucha is just what they are asking for—a delicious and refreshing pick-me-up that also supports digestive wellness.”

The six new flavors are Ginger Lemon Honeycrisp, Mango Pineapple, Ginger Greens, Spicy Greens, Pink Grapefruit and Turmeric Pineapple Coconut. All six varieties are certified USDA Organic, non-GMO, gluten-free and Kosher.

The drinks will debut at stores in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Seattle before expanding to more cities in fall 2018. The bottles will sell for $3.99 for a 15.2-ounce bottle.
