A retailer in Virginia celebrated customer appreciation day with the huge discount.

July 10, 2023

A gas station in Altavista, Virginia, offered customers the low price of $0.76 per gallon of gas last week. Customers lined up between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to take advantage of the savings. It was a part of the gas station’s fourth annual customer appreciation day.

It was the only gas station within the retailer’s network that offered the discount, and if customers used the fuel forward app, additional deals applied. With the app, customers could get prices as low as 31 cents a gallon. There were several ways to add up discounts in the app:

  • Everyday savings: 5 cents off a gallon
  • First-time mobile app user: 15 cents off a gallon
  • Pay with direct pay: 10 cents off a gallon
  • Pay with a Phillips 66, 76 or CONOCO card: 10 cents off a gallon
  • Pay with PayPal: 10 cents off a gallon

Heas Energy operates 76 gas stations in the central Virginia area. President Shiv Patel says every July 6, the company picks a different location in the area to celebrate and give back to their customers.

"We can't do it every day, but we can at least afford to do it every July 6," Patel said.

"For a lot of everyday customers ... they're filling up a couple of gallons here and there just to get by," he said. "We're hoping that this event brings those people that need a full tank of gas."

During the long wait, the gas station offered giveaways, games and free water as well as a $10,000 donation to the community.
