Rutter’s Tries Out Adventurous New Menu Items

Convenience chain counts on fish bites, wings and taco dogs to attract hungry customers.

YORK, Penn. – Rutter’s is bringing more diversity to its menu this month, adding Mahi Mahi fish bites, chicken wings, pork wings and taco dogs.

Rutter’s new Mahi Mahi fish bites are lightly breaded and then fried, made with 100% Mahi Mahi fish, the new bites surpass restaurant quality. At more than 5 ounces per portion, the new item is big enough for a meal.

Rutter’s intends for customers to make a meal or a snack of their new chicken wings, which can be ordered in quantities of 6 or 12 in a choice of four flavors: original, buffalo, spicy and Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbecue Sauce.

Apparently, pigs really do fly — at Rutter’s, that is. In addition to chicken wings, the chain is introducing a pork wing. Each serving is more than 5 ounces of fall-off-the bone pork, fried then seasoned in a choice of four flavors, similar to the chicken wings.

Rutter’s is also introducing the fully customizable Taco Dog to its stores. Customers can customize each taco dog, which is prepared on the roller grill, including choice of a hot dog roll or a soft taco shell. Cheese, black bean salsa or any of the options on Rutter’s extensive list of fresh toppings can also be added to each order.

“We are always searching for interesting flavors and creative foods to add to our menu so that we can surprise and delight our customers with bold new tastes they can’t find anywhere else,” said Jerry Weiner, vice president of foodservice, in a press release.

Rutter’s was named 2014’s International Convenience Retailer of the Year by NACS and Insight Research and  also took first place in 5 categories in the 2014 York Daily Record/ Sunday News’ Best of York reader’s poll.
