McDonald’s Creates Useless Utensil

Move over, Spork. McDonald’s has created the Frork.

OAK BROOK, Ill. – This week, McDonald's USA revealed the Frork, a quasi-utensil, fry-fork hybrid for scooping up ingredients that may fall out of the QSR’s new signature crafted recipes sandwiches.

The sandwiches feature ingredients like Pico guacamole, sweet BBQ bacon and maple bacon Dijon, which are also toppings that could fall out while customers are eating. So, here’s comes the Frork, a silicone fork-shaped utensil topped with an opening where the customer can insert three-to-four French fries, which then become the Frork’s prongs.

Pitchman Anthony Sullivan helped McDonald’s launch the Frork by starring in the QSR’s first-ever infomercial that aired in New York on April 30. "Will the Frork change your life? Probably not. Will the Frork improve your Signature Crafted Recipes eating experience? I mean, sure... maybe!" said Sullivan.

"We started with all-day breakfast, updated our Chicken McNuggets, offered new [Big] Mac sandwich sizes for every occasion and now we're introducing signature crafted recipes because they are inspired by our customers," said McDonald's Chef Michael Haracz. "And while the Frork is supremely superfluous, it shows that McDonald's is willing to do whatever it takes to help [customers] enjoy every last bite."

On May 5, Frorks will be given away at select McDonald's locations nationwide with the purchase of a signature crafted recipes sandwich, while supplies last.
