This week, Rutter’s launched its new Spam Dog. The retailer described the new offering as “iconic SPAM flavor in an unexpected form, bringing heritage and innovation together in one bold, crave-worthy bite.”
Now in its fifth year of partnership with Hormel Food Corporation, Rutter’s continues to find creative ways to bring Spam to the menu. The Spam Dog represents the latest chapter in the collaboration, which also included Rutter’s limited-time Spam menu that returns each fall.
“This isn’t your average ballpark hot dog. The Spam Dog is a flavor disruption that transforms a classic comfort food into something entirely new, featuring a savory, smoky-sweet finish and a pop of nostalgia that bites back. It’s proof that sometimes old dogs can learn new tricks,” Rutter’s said.
The retailer said the idea for the Spam Dog took shape during an on-site visit between Hormel and Rutter’s foodservice team in Minnesota last year, where a “shared focus on bold flavor and culinary creativity sparked a new way to experience an iconic product. The result is a roller grill standout that delivers a satisfying sizzle, bites filled with flavor and a modern take combining two beloved favorites.”
“Launching the new Spam Dog at Rutter’s is a great example of how strong partnerships can drive meaningful innovation,” said Philip Santini, senior director of foodservice and bar strategy. “We’re excited to be the first to showcase this new concept, bringing a familiar, iconic brand into a fresh format that fits our food-forward strategy. It’s another step in our commitment to delivering unexpected, high-quality items that give our guests a reason to choose Rutter’s.”
The retailer’s annual Spam fall release menu in 2025 featured breakfast choices of Spam, egg and cheese on either a waffle, croissant, pretzel roll or in a breakfast bowl or burrito. For lunch and dinner, customers could add Spam to their mac and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches and American cheeseburgers.
