Sweetgreen is reportedly rolling out its air-fried Ripple Fries in March. “The Los Angeles-based chain began testing the new fries—which are air-fried with avocado oil, offering a healthful spin—last year and it seems they were a hit,” reported Restaurant Business Online.
“Fries and salad have long been an iconic duo,” said CEO Jonathan Neman. “Ripple Fries, our Sweetgreen take on this classic pairing, offers our guest a signature, craveable side that complements our vibrant, produce-driven menu.”
The outlet also said there’s a possibility of hand-held menu items coming to the Sweetgreen menu, and that there’s also a collaboration with a Michelin-starred chef in the works.
Utz brand Boulder Canyon is also showing the avocado oil trend, with sales of the avocado oil-fried chips surpassing $100 million for the first time. “What we’re now seeing is as more retailers are interested in looking at that piece of the portfolio—better-for-you and avocado oil and non-seed oils—Boulder is obviously square dead-center in that trend with a great product that actually delivers on taste and affordability,” said Howard Friedman, CEO of Utz Brands.
Jackson’s Food Co. LLC is introducing kettle-style potato chips made with avocado oil available in three flavors—sea salt, barbecue and sea salt and vinegar, according to Candy and Snack Today.
“We’re thrilled to introduce our kettle chips cooked in avocado oil to snack lovers nationwide,” said James Marino, CEO. “From the very beginning, our brand has been rooted in the use of premium oils, avoiding seed oils entirely—not because it’s trendy, but because it’s central to who we are. Consumer awareness around healthier fats continues to grow, with 54% of shoppers actively monitoring fats and oils in their food and 71% of parents willing to pay more for chips cooked in better-for-you oils.”
In the February 2025 issue of NACS Magazine feature “Smart Snacking,” NACS delved into data which found consumers are seeking alternative snacks.
