Subway has announced it’s permanently bringing back its footlong cookie. It will give away free footlong cookies in select locations on National Cookie Day, December 4.

Subway first launched the treat for National Cookie Day last year, according to QSR Magazine.

“The overwhelming response we received from fans around the country last year let us know that we needed to make the footlong cookie a permanent addition to our menu,” says Paul Fabre, senior vice president, culinary and innovation at Subway.

“At Cookieway this year, our guests will get a sneak peek of an even better footlong cookie: thick, gooey, packed with chocolate chips and served warm—right out of the oven. It's the perfect pairing with your favorite footlong sub and may even become your favorite footlong after the first bite,” said Fabre in a company press release.

On National Cookie Day, customers can visit four select Subway locations in Chicago, Dallas, Miami and New York, for the free footlong cookie with the purchase of a footlong sub from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The footlong cookie will then become a permanent Subway menu item, with a rollout starting next month.

Maverik is also celebrating National Cookie Day this December with the arrival of its stuffed mint cookie. “Maverik fans love our stuffed cookies, and presenting a traditional seasonal flavor combination in a new and creative way is really fun for Cookie Day!” said Kyle Lore, Maverik’s corporate research and development chef.

National day deals have become increasingly popular at c-stores. The promotions are effective in driving guest visits and creating novel interactions with customers. Read more about the holiday craze in the July 2023 issue of NACS Magazine.
