Next Generation Wendy’s

The QSR has opened a digital-first restaurant.

The Ohio-based fast food chain has opened its first next-generation restaurant prioritizing its digital presence and customer convenience.

The Global Next Gen restaurant designs from Wendy’s “emphasize convenience, speed and accuracy across drive-thru, dine-in and digital order pick-up” with its “optimized layout and next-generation technology,” as stated in a company press release.

The release goes on to note, “The Global Next Gen future-forward design unlocks 400 times the capacity for digital orders, accelerating the system's digital growth," said Wendy's president, international and chief development officer, Abigail Pringle. "...Wendy's global structure is enabling system-wide expansion optimized to the digital age."

In addition to the new concept in general, “For restaurants with the highest customer demand, Wendy's developed a new Global Next Gen High-Capacity Kitchenwhich is estimated to deliver nearly a 50% increase in kitchen output capacity compared to the Global Next Gen standard,” according to Wendy’s.

The new kitchen design will include:

  • Streamlined ordering: Self-order kiosks, conveniently located passthrough order pick-up shelving, and dedicated parking for mobile order pick-up.
  • Delivery optimizations: A dedicated delivery pick-up window and parking spaces increase restaurant traffic efficiency and convenience.
  • Technology integration: Next generation technology enables a fast, frictionless experience for restaurant teams to handle more digital orders.

Wendy’s has also announced the addition of two types of English muffin breakfast sandwiches to its breakfast lineup, egg and cheese and either bacon or sausage. Customers will be able to grab one starting August 22, and can get $2 off through the Wendy’s app.
