CINCINATTI – The Kroger Co. launched a new app, OptUp, to help customers make more informed, healthier purchase decisions. The app allows users to “score” groceries by dietary guidelines; receive personalized product recommendations; scan and search items to find nutrition facts; and add healthier options to your digital cart. When ready, customers can order for curbside pickup or delivery.

“Kroger's new OptUP app is transformational for the food retail industry," said Colleen Lindholz, President, Kroger Health. "The app puts nutritional information at your fingertips and makes finding and buying better-for-you products easier and simpler.”

The OptUP scores are based on a nationally recognized dietary standard and range from 1-100. There are three categories: green, yellow and red. For example, green products have a score of 71 or above and are lower in saturated fat, sodium, sugar and calories, and may be higher in fiber, protein and fruit/vegetable, or nut content. Kroger's registered dietitians recommend customers have a cart mix that is at least 50% green category products.

The app is part of Kroger’s new Wellness Your Way platform and is available for download from the App Store and Google Play.
