WASHINGTON – Wawa announced it will expand into the nation’s capital, WTOP-FM reports. This will be the first store by the convenience store chain in the District.

Wawa is keeping mum as to the exact plans for now, but has sent invitations to a June 13 event at the Newseum near the National Mall that will reveal more details. The invite alludes to Wawa “creating a store uniquely designed for the D.C. customer,” referring to the store as a “restaurant-style location,” with the “best of Wawa’s products in a casual, inviting setting.”

“We will unveil our plans for the first Wawa store in Washington, D.C., including a special design, store location and renderings, with remarks from Wawa leadership,” Wawa spokeswoman Colleen Labik told the news radio station about the event. She indicated the June event was for local officials and the development and real estate community.

Wawa will be opening two new locations in Northern Virginia this summer. The chain has locations in Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Florida.
