WEST YORKSHIRE, England – What’s going on in U.K. forecourts? That’s the question Retail Vision asked representatives from half a dozen retailers recently for its RetailVisionTV show. The program aired on December 18, and can be found on RetailVisionTV’s YouTube channel.

The six retailers included Dan Munford, managing director of Insight Research; Michael O’Loughlin, managing director for Petrogas Group UK/Applegreen; Ilyas Munshi, commercial director for Euro Garages UK; Ian Thompson, senior vice president for strategy for Kalibrate Technologies; John Williamson, CEO of Topaz Ireland; and Debbie Robinson, managing director for Spar UK.

Here’s a brief peek into what’s on the video.

O’Loughlin on fuel margins: “To build our house on fuel margins, is probably not a very stable place to be … [But] our average forecourt volume … delivers huge footfall [for our locations.”

Munshi on the right non-fuel offer: “We find the consumers we’re trying to attract will come for non-fuel offers … [as long as we] differentiate on a quality offer.”

Williamson on the importance of brands: “The discerning customer [wants to] support [brands he can trust].”

Munshi on working the advantage: “There’s an opportunity for us…being a convenient location [to win and keep customers].”

Robinson on staying competitive: “If we want to maintain our competitive advantage in the wake of the supermarkets [horning in with fuel], …we should be [the leaders].”
