As summer approaches and more Americans hit the road for vacations and road trips, Casey’s is ramping up its hiring efforts and introducing new employee retention strategies.

The convenience retailer is encouraging people to apply to the company’s open positions, and is also focusing on developing current employees with a new program that addresses “structured career growth programs, total well-being through comprehensive benefits and recognition programs, the Casey’s values and culture and team member engagement,” said the company in a release.

One notable new effort is its recently launched internal career fairs, aiming to help with succession planning and growth of its current team members. These internal events will focus on helping existing employees learn more about creating a customized career path and furthering their career with the company.

“Casey’s introduced our team member value proposition this past year, which brings clear focus to all the ways we are supporting our team members as they grow and develop within the company. This includes providing career growth opportunities, supporting well-being, living our values and being engaged at work,” said Nan Thomae, vice president of human resources for store operations at Casey’s.

Last month, Casey’s hired its first-ever Chief Pizza & Beer Officer, Joe Cruz. He is responsible for sampling, researching and pairing Casey’s pizzas with the best beer combinations.
