What’s Driving Your Company’s Future?

Whether it’s category insights, increasing trips or drilling into your P&L, the NACS SOI Summit helps you make better decisions.

March 24, 2023

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—Spring has sprung and April is just around the corner, which means we’re full steam ahead putting the final touches on this year’s NACS State of the Industry (SOI) Summit.

Convenience retailers and their industry supplier partners will head to Dallas, Texas, for this year’s SOI Summit from April 18-20 to be the first to hear and bring back home exclusive industry data, category insights and benchmarking to improve their businesses.

“I don’t just benchmark myself against the rest of the industry—I benchmark myself against the best of the industry. I see what I should keep doing, and what I need to get started doing right away,” said Jared Scheeler, president and CEO of The Hub Convenience Stores and the 2021-22 NACS chairman.

This year’s conference is packed with indispensable content to inspire and get retailers thinking about how they can continue driving their business forward at a time when consumers are more aware of what c-store brands deliver every trip they take to refuel, refresh and recharge.

Pre-SOI Summit Master Classes

NACS is hosting a series of three 20-minute sessions to help attendees get the most out of our industry’s only event that delivers insights and data on the latest financial, operational, categorical, regional market and consumer trends in convenience retail.

Sessions took place March 2 and March 16 and are viewable online. The first session, “Your Questions. Answered,” covered commonly asked questions about the SOI Summit. The second session, “It's All About the Data,” took a deep dive into State of the Industry data and reviewed a typical sales and profit scorecard.

“Let’s Do This,” the final session, will be hosted the week before the SOI Summit on April 13 from 2:00-2:20 PM EST. This session will exclusively focus on what to expect onsite at the event, from location details to the jam-packed schedule of events planned to make your stay in Dallas memorable. Financial and Operational Benchmarks

Convenience retail leaders who are immersed in their own company’s success and strategies will deliver an overview of our industry’s 2022 performance. Attendees will be the first to hear Varish Goyal, president and CEO of Loop Neighborhood Markets, and Annie Gauthier, CFO and Co-CEO of St. Romain Oil Company LLC, deliver 2022 industry operational and performance data and in-store category insights.

Regional Breakdowns

To drill down into each regional operating area within the United States, NACS SOI Summit attendees will hear exclusive and region-specific metrics during the Regional Performance Insights sessions. To help your team prepare—especially if you operate in multiple regions—the six sessions will be led by:

  • Region 1, Tom Luciano, VP of finance at Sheetz
  • Region 2, Kevin Hill, senior manager of financial planning and analysis at RaceTrac
  • Region 3, Ruth Ann Lilly, senior VP of merchandising and marketing at GPM Investments
  • Region 4, Abraham Albert, VP, finance and strategic planning at 7-Eleven
  • Region 5, Mike Wilson, chief operating officer at Cubby’s Inc.
  • Region 6, Petros Keshishyan, senior director of financial planning and analysis at United Pacific

There is less than one month until the NACS SOI Summit kicks off in Dallas. This is the only industry-specific event where convenience retailers gain access to trends, opportunities and “watch-outs” on topics related to finance, labor, store operations, merchandising and fuels.
