ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A NACS Magazine story on the convenience industry’s efforts following last year’s hurricanes and a podcast featuring writers Al Hebert and Frank Beard were among the top-recognized efforts at the 2018 Association Media & Publishing EXCEL Awards ceremony, held June 25. In total, NACS brought home nine 2018 EXCEL awards, including a Gold Award for General Excellence in magazines, a distinction NACS has received for four consecutive years.

NACS Magazine won three additional awards, including a Silver Award for “After the Storms,” which reported how c-stores stepped up to meet demand and help their communities in the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. In the design categories, the magazine won a Silver Award for Design Excellence and a Gold Award for the feature story “Fuel for Thought,” which appeared in the May 2017 issue.

In the podcast categories, NACS won two Bronze Awards and two Silver Awards for “Convenience Matters.” The “Road Trip!” episode, which won a Silver Award, recaps the c-store eating escapades of polar-opposite palates Hebert, the Gas Station Gourmet of NACS Magazine, and Beard, a health enthusiast, as they drove to the 2017 NACS Show in Chicago. Their lively kale- and barbecue-spiked conversation also appeared in the December 2017 issue of the magazine.

NACS also received a Silver Award, Promotional Content, for the 2017 Leadership Forum Onsite Directory.
