LAKEVILLE, Minn. – Grocery chain Hy-Vee is planning to open an 8,800-square-foot convenience store in Lakeville, Minn., the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reports.
The larger-format c-store will have gas pumps, prepared meals and downsized departments of produce, meat and dairy departments, along with its Market Grill restaurant and a Starbucks. “What we’re trying to do with this concept is meet the needs of those folks who live busy lives,” said Phil Hoey, Hy-Vee’s real-estate director. “This quite a bit larger than the largest convenience store you’ve been in.”
Hy-Vee already operates more than 140 convenience stores in eight states. Spokeswoman Tara Deering-Hansen indicated Hy-Vee is looking for other Twin Cities locations for additional larger format c-stores.
Earlier this year, Hy-Vee said it was working on a new concept called Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh, a store between 12,000 and 16,000 square feet. The smaller format will have gas pumps and groceries. A typical Hy-Vee grocery store is around 90,000 square feet.
