McDonald’s is set to enter the world of crafted energy drinks, dirty sodas and refreshers as part of a broader overhaul of its cold beverage lineup at U.S. restaurants later this year.

The new beverages are expected to roll out next month and include options such as a Dirty Dr Pepper, Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer and Mango Pineapple Refresher.

“McDonald’s plans to sell its new beverages at prices below those of competitors such as Starbucks, Dutch Bros, Sonic and other chains. McDonald’s expects the new drinks to deliver high profit margins for franchisees, which operate the bulk of its restaurants. Franchisees have invested thousands of dollars in new equipment per restaurant to mix the drinks, hoping to drive more sales without slowing service,” The Wall Street Journal reported.

McDonald’s expansion into enhanced beverage offerings follows the retailer’s decision to close several beverage-focused CosMc’s locations and instead focus on incorporating those menu concepts into its core restaurants.

Research shows the dirty soda trend isn’t going away anytime soon. Utah-based Swig, a drive-thru beverage QSR concept that coined the term “dirty soda” in 2010, has become one of the fastest-growing beverage chains in the country.

Swig’s growth has been fueled by strong online demand, with some locations drawing lines that leave customers waiting over an hour. In February 2026, visits to the chain were 137.9% higher than in February 2023 and up 30.7% year-over-year compared to February 2025, according to Placer.ai.

Suppliers are also leaning into the trend. Earlier this month, PepsiCo rolled out its Dirty Mountain Dew and Dirty Mountain Dew Zero Sugar, featuring a citrus base with a smooth, creamy finish.

In February, Keurig Dr Pepper brought back Dr Pepper Creamy Coconut, combining its signature 23-flavor blend with a coconut profile for a limited-time offering.
