BATON ROUGE, La.—Top Box Foods, a Louisiana nonprofit that delivers fresh produce to food-insecure neighborhoods, is partnering with local convenience stores to offer fresh vegetables and fruits to local consumers, WAFB9 reports.

On Friday, the SMS Food Mart at 3847 Plank Road, Baton Rouge, will host a Good 2 Go grand opening celebrating Top Box Foods’ newest Healthy Corner Store, featuring a produce market. Express Mart, located at 3322 N. Foster Drive in the city, also is participating in the Top Box Foods’ Healthy Corner Store initiative.

The Good 2 Go project works with Baton Rouge corner store operators to maximize their business sustainability and increase the amount of fresh, healthy food they offer in their stores. Hosted by Propeller, funded by the City of New Orleans, and operated by Liberty’s Kitchen and Top Box Foods, the Healthy Corner Store Collaborative is modeled after current, successful healthy corner store projects around the country, including the Urban Food Project in Birmingham, Ala., the Food Trust in Philadelphia, and DC Central Kitchen in Washington, D.C.

Since 2016, NACS has hosted small meetings bringing together corner store organizations, including those mentioned above, in the Corner Store Forum at the annual NACS Show, with the goal of connecting like-minded groups, sharing knowledge and ideas. Registration for the 2019 NACS Show in Atlanta is open!
