Pennsylvania-based Onvo is "giving a whole new meaning to the 'Dog Days of Summer,' launching a search to find its first-ever CHO—Chief Hot Dog Officer," the retailer said in a press release sent to NACS.
Onvo said "one lucky candidate" will spend the summer sampling the retailer's hot dogs, creating recipes inspired by their favorite bites and sharing the experience with fans along the way.
From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the CHO will travel to select Onvo convenience store locations throughout Pennsylvania and upstate New York, taste-testing and reviewing hot dogs and other summer favorites. Fans will be able to follow the CHO's journey across social media and engage with each stop through entertaining reviews and behind-the-scenes moments as they travel from location to location.
"This year, as we celebrate America's 250th birthday, we're also celebrating a summer staple: the hot dog," said Harman Aulakh, vice president of marketing. "While hot dogs are associated with summer cookouts and picnics, they are also a go-to snack for road warriors logging miles during their summer travels. Our Chief Hot Dog Officer will be on the road, ensuring Onvo's hot dogs and roller grill items consistently exceed expectations while also inspiring fans with new ways to enjoy these roller grill favorites."
Onvo said that beyond free hot dogs, the CHO will receive a stipend for the temporary position and that applicants should be experienced or aspiring content creators. A video example of previously created content is required to apply.
According to a survey of 2,500 consumers by sausage and hot dog provider Johnsonville, 71% said roller grills in c-stores are "very important" or "extremely important." Read more about the importance of roller grills in c-stores in the June 2024 NACS Magazine feature "Let It Roll."
