Weigel’s recently made a $40,000 donation to Smoky Mountain Service Dogs (SMSD), “continuing its annual commitment to support local charities that make a lasting difference in East Tennessee,” Weigel’s said.
Additionally, Weigel’s partner REDCON1 made a $10,000 donation to the organization, bringing the total impact to $50,000. Smoky Mountain Service Dogs is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the lives of veterans and first responders by providing highly trained mobility assistance and PTSD service dogs.
The combined donation will help fund the training, care and placement of service dogs that provide support to veterans and first responders across the region. Each dog represents over two years of training and thousands of hours of care to prepare them for their mission.
“Smoky Mountain Service Dogs represents the best of what it means to serve,” said Doug Yawberry, CEO & president of Weigel’s. “They transform the lives of veterans and first responders with compassion, dedication and heart. At Weigel’s, we believe in giving back to those who give everything for us, and we couldn’t be prouder to support their mission once again.”
In other recent Weigel’s news, earlier this month the retailer rolled out its new “Win What You Spend” app promotion, a new gamification feature in the MyWeigel’s Rewards app.
Throughout November, Weigel’s said every transaction made using a MyWeigel’s Rewards account automatically earns an entry for a chance to win back every dollar spent at Weigel’s during the month.
