After opening its first ever travel center this week in North Carolina, Wawa said it currently has two other travel centers under construction, according to a press release.

“We’re thrilled to premier the new travel center format in Hope Mills and bring Wawa’s fresh food, beverages and convenience to local customers while serving a need to the community, travelers and professional drivers! This historic milestone kicks off the next chapter of our growth as we debut a new store format and prepare to bring it to additional locations in Ohio and Indiana in the coming months,” said Brian Schaller, president of Wawa.

The Wawa travel center format has over 8,000 square feet of space, offers Wawa’s signature food and beverage, fuel for passenger vehicles and a high-speed diesel fuel court for the needs of professional tractor trailer drivers. The fuel features include six high speed diesel fuel lanes, accepting over the road (OTR) payments and 20 fuel spots for passenger drivers.

The stores “have interior and exterior seating areas and a large open design for the fresh food and beverage area. Other amenities include a CAT weigh station, free parking for tractor-trailers, well-appointed restrooms and a pet relief area,” Wawa said.

The recently opened Hope Mills Travel Center marks Wawa’s 15th store in North Carolina. Over the next eight to 10 years, Wawa said it plans to build and open six to eight stores per year, reaching a total of 90 stores in North Carolina.

Meanwhile in the Midwest, Kwik Trip announced that its expanding its footprint to North Dakota later this year.

“Our first North Dakota store is opening in Fargo on November 20, 2025. … We’re so excited to bring delicious food, great coffee and the absolute best customer service of any convenience store to North Dakota, continuing on the tradition and the reasons why we’ve grown to 900 stores across the Midwest,” the retailer said.

In other recent store opening news, earlier this week Sheetz opened its 800th location in Raleigh, North Carolina.

As part of the celebration, Sheetz said it is offering two free hot dogs with any purchase from the day Sheetz opens its 800th location (August 28) to September 2, 2025. The deal is available at all Sheetz locations.
