Wawa’s First Travel Center to Open Later This Month

The location will include six high-speed diesel fuel lanes, free parking for tractor-trailers and more.

Wawa is set to open its first travel center later this month on August 28 in Hope Mills, North Carolina, reported Truckers News.

The report noted that the location will have over 8,000 square feet of space, six high speed diesel fuel lanes and accept over the road (OTR) payments. Other trucker amenities available will include a CAT weigh station, free parking for tractor-trailers, well-appointed restrooms and a pet relief area,

“We are thrilled to pilot this new format in Hope Mills and believe this new travel center model is a great way to bring Wawa to customers while serving a need to the travelers,” said John Poplawski, Wawa chief real estate officer. “Not only will our Wawa Travel Center meet the fueling needs of professional drivers, while also remaining a community hub for local friends and neighbors to enjoy.”

NACS Daily first reported on the possibility of a Wawa Travel Center in 2023.

Over the next eight to 10 years, Wawa reportedly plans to build and open six to eight stores per year in the state, reaching a total of 90 stores in North Carolina.  

Meanwhile, Refuel recently opened a new location in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina at 9481 Ocean Hwy. “This opening marks another step in our continued growth, and we couldn’t be more excited to serve this awesome community,” the retailer said in a LinkedIn post.

In New York, Chestnut Market celebrated the grand re-opening of its Yonkers location with the Mayor of the town, according to a LinkedIn post.

Also in New York, Stewart’s Shops opened a new location in Colonie, New York, marking the retailer’s 39th location in Albany County.

Earlier this month, Arko Corp. opened its new Handy Mart location in Kinston, North Carolina, located at 2227 Highway 11N, featuring its new fas craves branding and menu offering. This new build marks a continued expansion of the fas craves concept.
