After acquiring Kum & Go in 2023, Maverik is selling some Kum & Go stores in Iowa to Mega Saver as it continues “phasing out the iconic Iowa brand,” reported Mass Market Retailers.
According to the report, this week, city councils in Okoboji and Spirit Lake, Iowa, approved retail alcohol licenses for Mega Saver ahead of the regional chain taking over two former Kum & Go sites.
Mega Saver reportedly operates convenience stores in Iowa, Nebraska and Florida, and these new locations mark the brand’s expansion in the Iowa Great Lakes region.
The move comes as Maverik moves forward with its larger rebrand strategy that will retire the Kum & Go name. In late 2024, Maverik confirmed that it was "in the process of rebranding Kum & Go stores, with the intent to unify our entire combined footprint under the Maverik brand."
The company did not provide a timeline, instead saying, “we are taking a thoughtful, market-by-market approach to ensure the best customer experience before confirming each states’ rebrand."
