The first Buc-ee’s in Arizona is being built in Goodyear, and construction has started to clear the site for utility work, said the City of Goodyear in a press release. The location is expected to open at the end of 2025.
“We are currently in the early grading phase,” said Buc-ee’s Director of Construction Scott Ray. “Once we have completed that then we’ll start to put utilities in.”
The Goodyear site will span approximately 74,000 square feet and will measure about 23% larger than a football field, the city said. It is expected to create more than 200 full-time jobs with starting pay beginning above minimum wage, full benefits, a 6% matching 401k and three weeks of paid vacation, NACS Daily previously reported. The location will include 120 fueling stations, homemade barbecue and fudge, Buc-ee’s popular Beaver Nuggets and its “wall of beef jerky.” The company also plans to source products from local vendors and artisans in the local community.
“Buc-ee’s is not your traditional gas station,” said Ray. “We are designed for travelers so we want to be right off the freeway for those traveling so that they can pull in and get the best experience they’ve ever had.”
According to AZ Central, the city of Goodyear first approved the travel center earlier this year when the company submitted plans to rezone 71 acres of land. The land sale officially closed for $17.2 million in March.
“This is huge milestone for the project, and I couldn’t be more excited that Buc-ee’s has chosen Goodyear,” said Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo at the time. “Buc-ee’s will provide our residents with what they’ve been asking for—which are more options—and that’s what they’ll get as our city continues to grow.”
This year, Buc-ee’s has also opened a new location in Colorado (a 74,000-square-foot Johnstown travel center with 116 fueling positions and 12 EV charging stations) and its second store in Kentucky (a 53,000-square-foot travel center in Smiths Grove). The retailer also announced plans for a Mebane, North Carolina store set to open in 2025, as well as additional stores in Texas, Florida, Ohio and South Carolina.
