Wawa is continuing its expansion into new markets this year by entering West Virginia, which will be its 14th state, reported West Virginia News. The Inwood, West Virginia, groundbreaking is scheduled for August 14.

According to West Virginia News, the groundbreaking event will feature a "Taste of Wawa" celebration with food samples, including hoagies, soft pretzels, and smoothies. It will be overseen by the company’s mascot, Wally Goose.

This year so far, Wawa has broken ground on stores in three new states: Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. The retailer also opened its first location in North Carolina—with plans to have ten more stores open in the state by the end of the year—as well as its first store in Alabama.

Wawa is also expanding in its home state. In April, the company broke ground on a central Pennsylvania location, which company officials said marked the beginning of an expansion in the region. Over the next five years, the retailer plans to open 40 stores in the area.

This past week, a number of convenience retailers also celebrated new store openings.

The Spinx Company opened its newest store in Greenwood, South Carolina. “We are excited to expand further into the Greenwood market with this new full-service store,” said Steve Spinks, CEO and president of The Spinx Company. “We look forward to making lives easier while offering our Greenwood area customers top-notch service, quality products and a convenient shopping experience.”

Love’s opened a new location in Delphos, Ohio, adding 86 truck parking spaces to the Love’s network. The retailer also reopened its Las Cruces, New Mexico, location after rebuilding the travel stop from the ground up.

Also in Ohio, Sheetz opened a new location in Avon. According to a LinkedIn post by Owen Wolf, real estate site selector at Sheetz, there are several more store openings planned across northeast Ohio in the coming months.

Sheetz also celebrated the grand opening of a new store in Wilmington, North Carolina.
