After giving its franchisees the ability to opt out of offering its breakfast menu, a small minority of Taco Bell franchisees have chosen to stop serving breakfast starting in October, reported Restaurant Business Online.

The company gave franchisees this option to give the franchise owners the ability to flex their menu based on the needs of the community. “This is another example of how the brand is listening to its people, taking their feedback into account and making changes to support the overall growth of the brand,” Taco Bell said in a statement.

“We have to be nimble in a constantly changing QSR environment,” the company said, “especially with the range of audiences and lifestyles we serve.”

Taco Bell reported that its breakfast performance continued to improve last quarter, with same-store sales rising 5%. The company is also continuing to focus on the daypart, with plans to ramp up its coffee program and to test new breakfast items, according to Restaurant Business Online.

The group of restaurant owners who have chosen to remove breakfast wants to dedicate more time to the lunch daypart and the new Cantina Chicken menu, QSR Magazine reported.

All Taco Bell locations will open at 9 a.m. or earlier, regardless of whether they serve breakfast or not.
