MIAMI—Popeyes is making its blacked chicken sandwich a permanent staple on its menu and is allowing customers to add bacon and cheese to any sandwich.

In late November, Popeyes said it was “reigniting the chicken wars” by introducing a breading-free blackened chicken sandwich.

The Popeyes Blackened Chicken Sandwich will be available at all locations across the U.S. and Canada. The breading-free sandwich includes an antibiotic-free, whole chicken breast marinated for 12 hours and seasoned with a blend of Cajun spices, served on a toasted brioche bun with a house classic sauce or spicy mayo and pickles. The sandwich is priced at $4.99.

Popeyes is also introducing bacon and cheese add-ons. Customers can add Havarti cheese and/or bacon to their sandwiches starting at $1.50.

"As we expand our iconic Chicken Sandwich lineup, the Blackened Chicken Sandwich will provide guests with a lighter option that is perfect for everyday,” said Sami Siddiqui, president of Popeyes. “And, with the addition of bacon and cheese, our loyal fans will now have six Chicken Sandwich options to choose from, all with the irresistible Cajun flavors and boldness they crave.”

In honor of the new menu items, Popeyes is celebrating on its digital channels. Starting now until June 25, when customers buy a Chicken Sandwich Combo on Popeyes.com or on the app, they can get an extra regular side for free.
