TravelCenters of America hosts the Freedom Drivers Project (FDP), a Truckers Against Trafficking program, at its TA travel center in London, Ohio. The FDP was a first-of-its-kind mobile exhibit that educated visitors about human trafficking, according to a company press release.

The FDP mobile exhibit included a theater, actual artifacts from trafficking cases, portraits real truckers on the frontlines and how each is working to end human trafficking. This presentation provided many people with their first glimpse into human trafficking, as well as the simple steps anyone can take to combat it.

TravelCenters of America leaders attended the event alongside London, Ohio, Mayor Patrick Closser, professional drivers and community members. FDP reported the exhibit has visited 45 states and completed 265 in-person events with 62,122 in-person walkthroughs.

Human trafficking exists whenever people are bought and sold for forced labor or commercial sex. Truckers Against Trafficking states that human trafficking has been reported in all 50 states, and the number of victims in the United States is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands.

NACS partnered with In Our Backyard in 2018 to support its Convenience Stores Against Trafficking (CSAT) program. Learn more about how convenience retailers throughout the United States are raising awareness of human trafficking and identifying victims.
