WESTBOROUGH, Mass—EG America, which operates 1,700 convenience stores, has launched a national campaign to raise funds for Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the company reports. The donations will help DAV ensure that injured and ill veterans access the full range of benefits available to them and are another way that the EG Group is giving back to the communities where it operates.
Now through July, store employees will ask customers to donate an amount of their choosing to DAV at checkout. Funds donated will help veterans:
- Find meaningful employment
- Receive assistance during times of disaster
- Get the benefits they deserve
- Receive transportation to medical appointments
Convenience brands participating in the DAV promotion include Cumberland Farms, Certified Oil, Fastrac, Kwik Shop, Loaf 'N Jug, Minit Mart, Quik Stop, Tom Thumb and Turkey Hill. The goal is to raise more than $250,000 for DAV, an organization that changes the lives of more than one million veterans, of all eras, every year.
"Recognizing and giving back to those who have served our country is vitally important to the EG Group, which is why we are proud to partner with DAV in this important initiative," said George Fournier, president, EG America. "Many of our team members and guests are veterans themselves, so this association with DAV allows them to connect with the communities where they live and work in a meaningful way. This fundraising effort hits home for the EG Group, and we're looking forward to our guests playing a key role in this effort."
Adds said Marc Burgess, CFO, DAV, "For years, EG America has successfully raised funds directly supporting the vital programs we provide to the men and women who served. I can't thank EG America enough for continuing to support DAV in this promotion."
Founded in 2001 by the Issa Family, the United Kingdom-based EG Group is a major convenience retailer employing more than 44,000 people working in more than 6,000 sites across Europe, the United States and Australia.
Other c-store chains are also conducting summer fundraisers for nonprofit groups. As NACS Daily reported last week, Tiger Fuel Company’s gourmet-to-go convenience stores, The Markets, are conducting a “round-up” campaign to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge. Through Sept. 30, customers may round up their transactions to the nearest whole dollar at checkout, and 100% of the funds collected will go to BBBS in the Charlottesville and Albemarle, Va., areas.
