HONG KONG—The 1,000th 7-Eleven store in Hong Kong has officially opened 40 years after the first outlet welcomed customers, reports RetailNews.Asia.
To mark this milestone, the chain has rolled out a series of promotions to thank customers for their support, including an Instant Win Game, a first-of-its-kind augmented reality lucky draw with more than $10 million in prizes ranging from free cups of 7CAFÉ to $100 cash vouchers. To celebrate 7-Eleven Day on July 11, the store featured special offers, such as $7 cups of 7CAFÉ, as well as $7 and $11 discounts on a wide range of products. For 7-Eleven Rewards members, there are “1000-themed” promotions.
The Journey of 1000 Stores, a retrospective covering the history of 7-Eleven in Hong Kong, was held July 8. It charted 7-Eleven’s journey from its original store in 1981 to the newest location and featured the popular Hello Kitty badge collectible program and the launch of HOTSHOT, a ready-to-eat foodservice offering of Hong Kong-style treats.
7-Eleven Hong Kong is committed to giving back, and, since 2013, the chain has worked with Caritas, a Catholic charity, to provide training and job opportunities to people with special needs. In 2017, it teamed up with Pei Ho Counterparts, a local restaurant, to donate food to the homeless, the elderly and low-income families. The company also hands out small gifts every year on Christmas to needy children. Last year, 7-Eleven Hong Kong launched the Charity Meal Voucher Programme, which distributed 553,787 vouchers in eight days in neighborhoods hardest hit by the pandemic.
