SACRAMENTO, Calif.—A new Amazon Go-style checkout-free store will open Oct. 1 at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, home to the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, reports Businessinsider.com. The store is powered by Zippin, which recently opened its first cashier-less store in San Francisco. “When Zippin launches in Golden 1 Center this Fall, Sacramento Kings fans will be able to walk in, grab a beer and walk out in under 30 seconds,” said Krishna Motukuri, CEO and co-founder of Zippin.
Sports fans have long complained about concession stand lines at their favorite venues. But with the new store, spectators will be able to grab food and drinks and walk out within 30 seconds without waiting in lines or checking out, Motukuri said.
To use the store without the checkout line, shoppers must download the Sacramento Kings + Golden 1 Center app or the Zippin app. Cameras and sensors will track what shoppers grab off the store’s shelves. Customers also have the option of shopping in the store by presenting a valid debit or credit card at the entrance but will then be directed to a traditional checkout line.
