October 18, 2019

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—The NACS Compensation Survey for 2019 is now open! Submit your data by December 20 and receive a free copy of the NACS State of the Industry Compensation Report when it is released in the spring of 2020.

The NACS State of the Industry Compensation Report provides a snapshot of the compensation picture in the convenience store industry, including wages and salaries, fringe benefits and turnover for a variety of positions typical of a convenience store business. These metrics drive employee recruitment, training and retention.

“Whether soliciting help from an outside consulting firm or engaging NACS Consulting, meaningful benchmarking can help identify what success looks like—what’s working and whether your business is growing as fast as the industry,” said Leroy Kelsey, NACS director of research. “Market leaders are firms that exceed industry benchmarks consistently, while controlling costs.”

NACS has compiled and presented compensation data for the industry since the release of the first report in 1978, and each year we aim to improve the quality and value of the report. New for 2019, the report will include data on two new positions, overtime hours and cost, expanded hiring data and absenteeism.

“With unemployment under 4%, benchmarking your human resource metrics has never been so critical,” said Lori Buss Stillman, NACS vice president of research.

By submitting your data you can benchmark against convenience industry averages to see how you measure up, where you are excelling and what strategies you can use to improve your business through your greatest assets, your people. The larger the sample size we have, the more data we can analyze, which increases the quality of the report—and improves your benchmarking data.

In exchange for taking part in the survey, you will receive a free full comprehensive report (a $349 value; $249 for NACS members) with the newest industry data, analysis and insights that will help you to recruit and retain top talent.

NACS treats all data submitted by companies confidentially; any reporting or references to survey results will be presented in aggregate form only. NACS has honored this pledge for more than 40 years, while reporting aggregated metrics that are critical to the convenience and fuel retailing industry.
