The Slurpee Goes Digital

7-Eleven celebrated a new slush flavor with an LED light-up digital message cup.

IRVING, Texas—7-Eleven’s Slurpee has been around for more than half a century, but the company doesn’t let the brand grow stale, Store Brands reports. The chain recently debuted its newest Slurpee flavor—Mountain Dew Merry Mash-Up made with Mountain Dew cranberry pomegranate—for a limited time offer. 7-Eleven also has debuted a new beverage cup with LED light-up digital messaging.

“7-Eleven is always looking for new and innovative ways to serve our customers, whether that’s fun flavors, cool cups, exclusive experiences in our app, first-to-market products and new store designs," said Jacob Barnes, product director for the chain.

The interactive cup displays scrolling LED message banners with custom text created through users' smartphones and sent through a Bluetooth connection. Messages are entered in the free “Hello Cup” app and can be up to 250 characters in length. The app allows message-senders to quickly adjust content, font, brightness and which direction their customized message scrolls, plus it automatically saves up to 100 messages for future use.

Available with either red or blue lights, the LED message cup can hold 20 ounces of cold or hot beverages and comes with the three AAA alkaline batteries required to operate the cup.
