For convenience retailers, loyalty programs can be a powerful way to encourage repeat visits and strengthen consumer relationships. But even the best programs can fall short if consumers find it difficult to join, access or use.
That's why many retailers are focused on reducing friction throughout the consumer journey. The easier it is for consumers to enroll, redeem rewards and engage with offers, the more likely they are to participate and return.
"One of the biggest opportunities in loyalty today is making the experience as simple as possible for consumers," said John Field, Senior Director of Brand Marketing at Phillips 66. "When participation becomes easier, retailers have more opportunities to build lasting consumer relationships."
With that goal in mind, Phillips 66 is introducing several enhancements to its Fuel Forward® loyalty platform for Phillips 66®, Conoco® and 76® branded retailers.
Among the new features is Alternative ID (Alt ID), which allows enrolled consumers to access rewards using their phone number. Phillips 66 is also introducing web enrollment, providing consumers with another convenient way to join the program and start earning rewards.
The updates are designed to help reduce barriers that can prevent consumers from engaging with loyalty programs while creating a more seamless experience at the pump.
Phillips 66 is also expanding the ways Fuel Forward can work alongside retailers' existing loyalty programs. A new loyalty stacking capability allows participating retailers to combine eligible Fuel Forward rewards with qualifying retailer offers, helping deliver additional value to consumers without requiring retailers to replace their current programs.
"Fuel Forward is intended to complement retailer loyalty efforts, not replace them," said Field. "These enhancements give retailers more flexibility to create value for their consumers while leveraging the investments they've already made."
The changes reflect a broader trend across the convenience industry as retailers look for practical ways to increase engagement, encourage repeat visits and build stronger consumer connections.
"Consumers expect convenience in every interaction," said Field. "By reducing friction and making loyalty easier to use, retailers can create more opportunities to engage customers and keep them coming back."
