MELBOURNE—Virgin Australia’s 10 million Velocity Frequent Flyer members can now earn Velocity Points whenever they shop for fuel, food, coffee and convenience items at 7-Eleven Australia, the convenience chain announced.

The new partnership with 7-Eleven gives Velocity members even more opportunities to earn points,  that can be exchanged for flights, flight upgrades, hotel stays, products, gift vouchers and more.

With more than 700 7-Eleven stores located across Victoria, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland and Western Australia, Velocity members will earn:

  • 2 points per $1 on eligible 7-Eleven in-store purchases
  • 2 points per liter on premium fuel at 7-Eleven
  • 1 point per liter on regular fuel at 7-Eleven.

Plus, Velocity members earn 711 bonus points on their first eligible purchase at 7-Eleven made by June 28.

To launch the partnership, Velocity and 7-Eleven transformed The Domain, a popular outdoor venue in Sydney, into an airport runway with drones delivering convenience from the sky to hundreds of people in attendance. Lucky spectators received free fuel vouchers, lunch for a month and coffee for a year thanks to 7-Eleven, while a cabin crew from Virgin Australia passed out 7-Eleven freshly ground coffee, snacks and lunches from aircraft trolleys to hundreds of people attending the public event.

“Knowing your customer personally has always been core to being a great retailer. This new partnership allows us to continue to learn so that we can ensure we have what our customers want, when and where they want it,” said Angus McKay, CEO and managing director, 7-Eleven Australia. “Our goal is to continue to be leaders in convenience.”

The partnership has quickly followed the acceleration of 7-Eleven’s digital strategy, signaling significant steps forward for Australia’s leading convenience retailer.

“Our digital transformation is all about our customers and providing value that matters to them. Our partnership with Velocity Frequent Flyer is an exciting next phase of our digital transformation, and there’s plenty more to come in this space,” McKay said.
