North Carolina Issues HOS Waivers
Governor declares state of emergency following Hurricane Zeta.

RALEIGH, N.C.—As a result of damage caused by Hurricane Zeta, the governor of North Carolina has declared a state of emergency and issued transportation waivers for vehicles using DOT designated routes to deliver needed supplies.
The suspension applies to vehicles carrying equipment and supplies for utility restoration, fuel, food, water and medical supplies, as well as vehicles used for debris removal.
Under the governor’s emergency declaraction, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, will waive the maximum hours of service for drivers prescribed by DPS pursuant to N.C. Gen. Stat. § 20-381 and will waive certain size and weight restrictions and penalties.

Hurricane Zeta reached landfall near the southeastern tip of Louisiana as a Category 2 storm last Wednesday before moving through Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina. At one point, Zeta had maximum sustained winds of 110 mph, toppling trees and causing road closures and widespread power outages.
