New Coke Goes Back to the Future

“Stranger Things” have happened—1985 is calling.

May 23, 2019

NEW YORK– New Coke, one of retailing’s biggest marketing blunders, is making a comeback, according to USNews.

Launched in 1985 amid great fanfare, New Coke offered soda fans a new formula— one that they didn’t like, and the new version was retired after a mere 79 days on the market. But Coca-Cola has agreed to resurrect it for a limited time after Netflix explained that season three of “Stranger Things” would be set in the summer of 1985.

Reportedly, Coca-Cola had to dig the old New Coke recipe out of its safe and recreate the logo. The beverage company will release a limited number of New Coke in cans this week as part of a “Stranger Things” package.
