LAKEPORT, N.Y. – Matt Paduano spent almost three decades running convenience stores for other companies, most recently Nice N Easy, based in Canastota, New York. After Nice N Easy was acquired first by CST Brands and later by Alimentation Couche-Tard, Paduano left the organization and built Lakeport Market, a 6,500-square-foot c-store located halfway between Syracuse and Utica on the shores of Oneida Lake.

Lakeport Market sits on a site once owned, but never developed, by Nice N Easy. It offers local residents and tourists an extensive foodservice menu inspired by the successful program at Paduano’s former employer.

Paduano now works side by side his three children; Nicole, 28; Alyssa, 27; and Anthony, 23. Nicole has retail experience, Alyssa has a foodservice background and Anthony serves as assistant manager while attending college.

“Probably the best part of the whole endeavor is that I get to see my kids every day,” Paduano said. “It’s exciting, and we’ve had a great reception from the community. A lot of locals come in and say ‘thank you for building.’ They love our assortment, and they love our food. Everything is positive, and that’s good news.”
