NACS Day on the Hill helps convenience retailers just like you share their story with elected officials to show that convenience matters. Join us in March to advocate for your business, and ultimately, all c-stores across the United States. Your participation and support are the key to maintaining a strong voice in Washington to protect our industry.

NACS: Your Advocacy Partner.

NACS prepares you with the necessary guidance and resources, like videos, webinars, and briefing materials, before visiting Capitol Hill. The informational General Session that takes place prior to your meetings will help you understand the issues and provides an opportunity to network with industry peers. Our goal is to help you become an effective advocate, not only on your Hill visits but also in your community.

The NACS team:

  • Schedules your Congressional meetings and pairs you with other convenience retailers and experienced advocates;
  • Prepares you with pre-reads, on site briefing materials and training on how to participate in a successful congressional meeting;
  • Provides you with information to share with your elected officials; and
  • Equips you with knowledge and skills you can apply immediately back home.

Join the Conversation. Shape the Future of Convenience.

NACS Day on the Hill spotlights the key issues that our industry needs to address. It provides an opportunity to understand how these issues can your business operations and the legislative developments surrounding them.

Valuable interactions with industry stakeholders offer a common ground to talk about regulatory and legislative challenges and share similar concerns. Together, you can strengthen the collective resilience of our industry.

One of the most important aspects of this conference is the opportunity to educate members of Congress about our industry. Your voice matters, and by sharing voicing your perspectives and your story, you can enhance their understanding of the issues they support—and fight—on your behalf.

Whether you’re new to advocacy or a seasoned pro, retailer participation matters. Your voice strengthens our industry’s voice in Washington, D.C.

For first-time attendees, is participating a heavy lift?
Some prep work is important, but that mostly means gathering data from within your company so that you can share your story. The NACS government relations team schedules meetings, outlines the topics for discussion, and holds recorded virtual briefings to help everyone prepare. There’s also an on-site briefing the day before the group meetings on Capitol Hill.

What will the focus issues be for 2027?
The issues discussed during group meetings are based on legislation moving through Congress and key policy issues important to our industry. Some of the previous top issues have been swipe fees and the Credit Card Competition Act, certain tax provisions and SNAP restrictions.

How are the meetings scheduled?
The NACS government relations team schedules meetings based on retailers’ geographic footprints (locations retailers serve) and the key issues discussed with members of Congress. Groups of about three to seven people attend meetings together. Each group includes either a NACS team member or a previous participant with a deep understanding of the convenience retailing industry and navigating Capitol Hill.
