Maverik has tapped Piston, a cardless payments platform that connects commercial fleets and fuel retailers, for a nationwide partnership. Piston's technology will roll out across the entire Maverik network in the coming month, the company said.

The retailer said the platform eliminates physical card workflows by allowing drivers to initiate transactions with a QR code or authorization code. “This provides fleets and merchants with real-time fraud prevention and digital receipts. Fleet managers gain additional visibility into spend, vehicle usage and driver activity, creating more accurate reporting and reducing the administrative burden that comes with traditional card programs,” Piston said.

Piston’s team has reportedly allocated resources to support onboarding. The partnership marks one of the largest deployments of cardless fueling in the U.S., Piston said.

“Fueling hasn't changed in decades, and plastic cards were never designed for the way fleets operate today,” said Vikram Sekhon, co-founder and CEO of Piston. “By verifying drivers and vehicles in real time, we close the door on fraud while giving fleets and merchants the transparency and control they've been missing. This is what modern, digital fueling looks like at scale, and we're proud to work with Maverik to set a new standard for the industry.”

In other recent Maverik news, last month NACS Daily reported that Maverik is selling some Kum & Go stores in Iowa to Mega Saver as it continues phasing out the Iowa brand. The move comes as Maverik moves forward with its larger rebrand strategy that will retire the Kum & Go name. In late 2024, Maverik confirmed that it was “in the process of rebranding Kum & Go stores, with the intent to unify our entire combined footprint under the Maverik brand.”
