Wisconsin-based Kwik Trip announced that it has officially expanded into South Dakota, with plans to continue developing in the state. The new location was opened under the Kwik Star banner and is located in Brandon, South Dakota.

South Dakota is the sixth state that Kwik Trip, Inc. has locations in, joining Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Michigan. Five more stores are scheduled to open in the Sioux Falls market through the rest of 2023.

According to Troy Mleziva, director of real estate at Kwik Trip, the convenience retailer sees Sioux Falls as “definitely a dynamic, growing market,” reported Siouxfalls.Business.

“We’re in the upper Midwest, and it seems like common sense with the type of community we like to operate in and have been successful in. We think the customer base and opportunity to be of service will be a good match for us,” he said.

Wawa has also expanded, announcing the grand opening of its newest store in Henrico, Virginia. According to the press release, the store features the first “next generation” Wawa store design. The company describes the design as “all-new” and “forward thinking,” featuring an all-new exterior design with a defined centered entry point, V-shaped column and cantilever roof canopy. Inside, Wawa describes the interior as “warm and inviting,” with a raised ceiling and large windows that let light inside.

“This new design is the next, important step in our continued store evolution journey. It reflects our current “best thinking” for design and efficiency, showcasing our expanding off-premises offers, built-to-order beverages and pizza,” said Michelle Walsh, director of store design, formats and lifecycle programs.

“We will always continue to evolve and enhance our interior and exterior design to create better experiences for our customers and associates, while providing the welcoming experience we are known for that remains our key to success.”

Additionally, as part of Wawa’s celebration of 25 years serving Virginia, the company will present the Virginia Local Hero Award at the grand opening ceremony to 25 nonprofit organizations. The ceremony will kick off the statewide distribution of $25,000 to those serving their communities through important nonprofit organizations.

In Texas, a new-to-industry convenience store brand, Kudos, announced its grand opening celebrations this month. The company has plans to launch 250 new and remodeled Kudos convenience marketplace locations in three to five years.
