TravelCenters of America will acquire the Russell’s Travel Center in Endee, New Mexico along Route 66, according to Quay County Sun. The company will keep the Russell’s name and museum for a few years.

Russell’s Endee location includes a 1950s style diner, a Subway franchise, a gift shop and chapel. There is also a nearby tire shop.

Russell’s Director of Operations Mark Russell stated that the deal will officially close on October 11. The company sold its other location in Springer, New Mexico, to TA in May.

TA has agreed to keep the Russell’s name for three years, reported Quay County Sun. “They said they want to kind of keep things the way they are,” Russell said. “They want to keep the restaurant running. They want to keep the same menus. They want to keep the same recipes.”

Meanwhile, the free classic car and old-time memorabilia museum will stick around for five years due to an agreement with TA. “We’re actually leasing the museum from them,” Russell said. “My mom and dad just wanted to keep the museum and keep people being able to look at the cars and stuff.”

The Quay County Sun reports that the truck stop employs 68 people, and Russell said that TA wants to keep all the workers after the change in ownership.

In a phone interview with Quay County Sun, Gilbert Romero, district manager for TA, said that the corporation still plans to open a location in Tucumcari, just off I-40. He said TA plans to break ground in the first quarter of 2024.
