ALEXANDRIA, Va.—7-Eleven will offer a $2 fish sandwich during Lent at participating 7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes stores.

The sandwich will feature garlic- and herb-flavored Alaska pollock fillet topped with American cheese and tartar sauce and will be served on a brioche bun.

Via a partnership with Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP), Trident Seafooods is supplying the fish for the sandwiches, according to SeafoodSource.

“Our partnership with 7-Eleven continues to be one that not only puts wild Alaska pollock into a fast-growing consumption channel that’s new for our fish: convenience stores, but also one that raises awareness about wild Alaska pollock’s inherent attributes,” GAPP CEO Craig Morris told SeafoodSource. “It’s incredible to partner with a company that values its suppliers and wants to share their stories the way 7-Eleven does.”

This year Lent starts February 22 and continues through April 6.

A 2021 poll by YouGov found that 16% of Americans observe Lent, including 41% of Roman Catholics. Giving up meat on Fridays is one common form of observance, as is giving up an indulgence or luxury of some kind. YouGov reported that “among those who are planning to give something up for Lent, the most common sacrifice is desserts or sweets (24%). One in five participants will forgo soda (20%) or fast food and dining out (20%). Close behind, 17% will give up alcohol.”

In 2020, 7-Eleven offered a fish sandwich during Lent. It then offered fish bites in 2021 before switching back to a sandwich in 2022.

QSRs are also putting fish on their menus during lent. Popeyes has added a fish sandwich as well as shrimp to its 2023 offerings. Wendy’s is expected to bring back its fish sandwich during Lent as well.
