ALEXANDRIA, Va.—Wawa aims to roughly double its store count by 2030, aiming for about 1,800 Wawa locations. In December, the convenience retailer announced that it would add stores in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky as part of the expansion plan.

“These markets are the perfect places for Wawa to expand based on their strong business communities, their family-like atmosphere, and the confidence that our unique offer and amazing associates will be welcomed by these communities,” Wawa CEO Chris Gheysens said at the time. “We look forward to bringing our freshly prepared food, specialty beverages, fuel, and convenience services to these new areas, all while creating new jobs and meaningful community support.”

Noblesville, Indiana, will be home to one of the state’s first Wawas. A $72 million mixed-use development authorized last week will include a car wash, a bank, office and residential space, and a public park, in addition to the c-store. Noblesville is a fast-growing suburb of Indianapolis.

In Ohio, Liberty Township, north of Cincinnati, will host a Wawa, the first location finalized in the state. The Journal-News reports that the site has been empty for some time. A new Costco, opened in November, has revitalized area car traffic.

“This is a perfect location for Wawa and the community. It takes an unproductive, deteriorating property and puts it to great use for our residents,” said Todd Minniear, Liberty Township trustee. “Wawa is known throughout the country as being a great place to work that provides a superior product and service. We are pleased Liberty Township has been selected as their first Ohio location,” he added.

Earlier this month Wawa announced plans to open 40 stores in the Florida panhandle/south Alabama region.
