Would you change your name to Subway to get free Subway sub sandwiches for life? In 96 hours, nearly 10,000 people said “yes.”  Subway’s latest promotion—Name Change Challenge—garnered thousands of responses from people who were willing and ready to legally change their name to Subway for a lifetime of sandwiches if selected as the winner.

Announced on July 26, the Name Change Challenge is a promotion in which Subway will select one winner to earn free sandwiches and assume a new identity. The entry period ran from August 1 to August 4. The winner will be announced later this month.

The person who takes the name Subway will enjoy free sandwiches for life. In addition, the winner will receive money to reimburse legal and processing costs to complete the name change process.

The latest refresh is part of Subway's transformation plan, which began in 2021 and has led to both ten straight quarters of positive sales growth and record average unit volumes in North America, the company said. “This latest update is Subway's most complex, investing more than $80 million to bring deli meat slicers to more than 20,000 U.S. restaurants.”

In February, Subway announced ambitious plans to build EV charging oases, travel spots that would incorporate chargers, a restaurant, green space and other amenities.
